“Not the usual suspects…”
This year, like every year, competition was hot for the Coveted “Golden Donut” trophy. Who wouldn’t want a Golden Donut?
We’re talking about the Redondo Beach Police Department SURF Line UP, of course!
Everyone has fun (usually in the sun!) You’ll see all levels from the newest surfers to hit the beach, to the pros with a lot of waves under their boards.
“From first timers to rippers,” this unique surf team competition includes all ability levels. Proceeds go to help three amazing charities: The Redondo Beach Police Foundation (RBPF), Special Olympics Southern California, and Wounded Heroes of America.
The Redondo Beach Police Department works with these groups to promote partnership with the community. As the RBPD puts it, “creating a legacy of love of surfing by sharing the ocean’s power to heal and unite.”
Bari Melendez attended the event with her son Max, on team “Stay Salty.”
“This was my son’s second year participating in the RBPD surf contest,” said Melendez. “It’s such a great event ! What better way to spend a Saturday morning than connecting with South Bay locals and seeing some great surfing. No matter what the skill level, everyone is supportive, friendly, and positive. We are so grateful to live in this amazing community.”
Nephew Palmer adds, “Everyone was so nice and supportive and that is what surfing is all about.”
