The Lens of a Local

Local photographer Erik Jay is a life-long resident of the South Bay, currently living in Palos Verdes Estates. Having spent many hours exploring with his camera, he knows Palos Verdes better than most–from all angles.

“I have always had a camera in my hand, professionally for years. Initial mentoring was by my grandfather, a professional photographer who was partnered with Ansel Adams for years.”

At Chadwick School, he studied all aspects of film photography and darkroom techniques. He received portrait training through a series of classes designed and supervised by none other than celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

“Although I specialize in the South Bay in its entirety, I decided to take Palos Verdes and make it my main focus. I was born and raised here. I know every trail, nook and cranny better than any other photographer. It’s one thing to capture the coast and the pretty scenes on the surface of ‘PV’; it’s another to capture images that make even people who live here stop and ask, ‘Is that really down the street from me?’ And that is my goal.”
