The 2019 Hermosa Beach Open was back on the sand in Hermosa Beach this year.
Hermosa is synonymous with beach volleyball – and one of the most revered spots in the world for the professional sport. Beach volleyball has a deep history here, and many professional and amateur players call Hermosa Beach home.
The AVP played in Hermosa Beach from 1984 to 2010. After its brief hiatus, in 2017 the AVP returned with the Hermosa Beach Open. Having the tournament back has been great for the city of Hermosa.
Thousands of spectators were drawn to the Strand to watch the pros compete in the South Bay sun. This year’s tournament had a record number of participants as well as spectators. 82 women’s teams and 108 men’s teams took part in the qualification rounds. Thousands of attendees spent time both on and off the sand. Local businesses, shops, and restaurants in downtown Hermosa benefited from the exposure Hermosa received from the AVP tournaments.
Welcome back to Hermosa, AVP!
